Turkish President Erdogan's wife often speaks publicly about her life with Turkish President Erdogan.

Emine Erdogan, 67, claims to live a modest life, in line with strict Muslim values. The situation is a little different, judging by the numerous photos of the president's wife's life. She spends money almost obsessively, loves expensive clothes, antiques, and expensive shoes. Interestingly, during the migrant crisis, shopping malls were closed so that Turkey's first lady could shop in peace. Turkish media often condemn her wasteful nature.

She once showed a purse worth fifty thousand dollars in Japan, which is roughly the amount that 11 people can earn in one year if they are on the minimum wage.

Another case of luxury lived by the Turkish president's wife is her shopping during negotiations to end the migrant crisis. While shopping in luxury stores in Brussels, she stopped city traffic for an hour. In Warsaw, on the other hand, she spent 37 thousand pounds at an antique fair in one afternoon.

Furthermore, in Greece, she bought seven pairs of shoes and paid 850 euros, at a discount. Turkish authorities are tirelessly trying to improve her reputation, so the newspaper portrays her as a thrifty and meticulous housewife. It thus preserves the peel of apples and lemons to make vinegar from them, and not even olive and date stones are thrown away. The same article omitted to mention that the thrifty Emine in her palace of 600 million euros and 1000 rooms prefers to drink a special tea of 1800 euros per kilogram. She sips it from gold cups that cost almost 300 euros.

Her life before Erdogan

Emine was born in a part of Istanbul called Uskudar. Emine is of Arab descent and is the only daughter in a family of five children. She dropped out of the Mithat Pasa Aksam art school before graduation, and at the age of 15, her brother Hussein forbade her to leave the house because it 'does not suit girls her age'.

She met Erdogan at a rally in support of the Idealist Women's Association, of which she was a member, and they married in July 1978. Friends describe her as a strong, intelligent and witty woman who loves to read, swim, ride and listen to Turkish classical music, wears the hijab.

Famous statements of the first Turkish lady

Apart from her extravagance, Emine also attracts attention with her statements.

She stated on one occasion that the harems of the Ottoman sultans were schools for members of the dynasty and educational institutions that prepared women for life. Erdogan is one of the world's highest-paid officials, and he made his fortune by investing in stocks and real estate. He owns several restaurants and a football club in Ankara and has his own drink-vodka. 'People with money' magazine recently put him at the top of the list of the highest-paid politicians, estimating his income at $ 58 million.
