Best places to find audiobooks on!

Whether you wish to get lost in a fantasy world or to further your knowledge, audiobooks could be the best choice for you! Lately, more and more people have been having trouble with concentration which is no wonder considering the amount of information we are bombarded with. Just think about how you spend your day. When you take into account how much time you spend at work, doing your chores, looking at different sources of media, the last thing you want to do when you come home is put even more effort into reading something and straining your eyes even further. The problem becomes even bigger if you are a bookworm and wish to spend at least some of your time engrossed in a book but you simply don’t have the strength or focus.

This is where audiobooks come in. If you love books but don’t have the time, this concept will make your life ten times easier and more enjoyable. With audiobooks, you can do any activity – even work! If you are working from home, exercising, cleaning, or cooking you can just put on an audiobook of your choice and continue with your daily duties while getting lost in the words you are listening to!

We have compiled a list of the best audiobook retailers for you!

  1. Audible

Audible is the most famous audiobook provider. It is our first choice because its database consists of thousands of book titles, podcasts, and original books that are not available anywhere else. In case you are not a native English speaker, fret not! Audible provides books in different languages, a few of them being Spanish and Chinese. It also has over 13,000 language learning books with a variety of languages to pick from! Another great thing is that Audible does not just offer titles from known publishers; they also include small press publications!

As for the membership, Audible offers plenty of options. The first one is The Audible Plus membership which is recommended to users who love listening to podcasts and short-form content. It costs $7.95 per month and it also provides access to the Audible Plus catalog. The catalog contains meditation and sleep guides, podcasts, and Audible Originals, i.e. books which only exist on Audible. You can listen to this content whenever and as many times as you want.

The second option is Audible Premium Plus. This option has different levels. The first one is $14.95 per month and you get one credit for this amount(take into consideration that each audiobook costs one credit). For two credits a month you need to pay $22.95 per month. There’s also an option for yearly pay! Premium Plus membership provides you 12 credits for the whole year and it is $149.50 or you can double the number of credits and get 24 for the cost of $229.50. You can use the items you purchased through the Audible Library even if you decide to cancel the membership.

Another great thing about Audible is that it is available for various devices and systems. You can use it on Android, Mac OS, iOS, Windows 10, a car mode is also provided for when you want to listen to a book while driving. If you own Alexa, Kindle, or Fire tablets you can also use Audible since it is owned by Amazon.

If any of this made you interested, you can try Audible Plus and Audible Premium Plus free for 30 days.

  1. Audiobooks.com

If you are not an Amazon fan, then this would be the next best choice. Audiobooks.com offers over 250,000 books from different publishers and in various languages like French and Spanish for example. The app also offers over a million podcasts and as for its versatility, you can use it on Android and iOS. The membership is $14.95 a month and for that price, you get one credit for their so-called premium section, which are books that have the same price as a la carte audiobooks. This also includes bestselling titles and a second book from “VIP” section – old and new books of different genres. This section provides different titles every month and in comparison to Audible, you can listen to the books you purchased as long as you are subscribed.

Audiobooks.com also offers a 30-day free trial period and during that time you get three books – one premium and VIP ones. You also get free access to meditation and sleep tracks, audio magazines, news, and deals such as 2-for-1 bestsellers.

  1. Apple Books and 4. Google Play Books

This is the app for you if you wish to buy audiobooks without the meddling of a third-party app. You can use it on both Android and iOS systems and the concept is similar to the one of Google Play store for Android users, or purchasing songs on Apple Music for iOS users. Both versions offer categories such as “Bestseller list”, “Read Before You Watch” on Apple to listen to a book that has been adapted to a movie or Google’s “Advice for a Better Life” which consists of self-help books.

Google provides some free options, while Apple charges only $4.99 for some. The average price of an audiobook ranges from $15 to $21.

  1. OverDrive

This may be the best option out there! Why you ask? Well, it’s free! To use this you just need to have a library card and you can use it both on its own or on the Libby app. OverDrive offers the option to have your local library’s whole content on the device of your choice!

The only thing you have to do is search for the closest library, put in your card information and the thousands of both audiobooks and e-books are yours for no charge at all! The downside is that you may have to wait for certain books, but OverDrive provides you with the information on how long is the waitlist. You can also rent audio and e-books for up to three weeks.

  1. Hoopla

Hoopla is very similar to OverDrive and its user is the "public library patron." Hoopla developed a partnership with libraries all over U.S. and Canada and next to audiobooks, Hoopla also offers music, movies, e-books, and TV shows. You just need your library card to sign up and in an instant, their whole content becomes available to you. The app can be used by both Apple and Android users, and while OverDrive partners whit public and for example university libraries, Hoopla focuses on public libraries only.

Whether you want to listen to an audiobook while driving, or taking a walk, there’s the right platform for you. Here's to never doing chores in silence again.
