Matthew Broderick celebrated his 60th birthday a few days ago, and his life has been marked by adultery and a car accident unlike his wife Sarah Jessica Parker who has an acting and design career.
Matthew Broderick celebrated his 60th birthday on Monday and is more than known for his role as the husband of Sarah Jessica Parker, 56. He was in her shadow until his adulteries became known. The couple met in November 1991 shortly after Sarah broke up with longtime boyfriend Robert Downey Jr. The actress met Matthew on Broadway thanks to her brothers Pippin and Toby. A few months later when they met again, Broderick invited Parker on a date.
They got married in 1997 and she did not get married in a wedding dress but in a red dress. When she was asked by reporters why she was not in white, she explained that she was ashamed to wear white. The following year, the actress became famous thanks to her role as Carrie in the series 'Sex and the City'.Five years later, they had a son, James Wilkie, and with the help of a surrogate mother, in 2009 they became the parents of twins Loretta and Tabitha. It wasn’t the only affair the actor was associated with, and Parker didn’t turn her back on him but helped him recover from his addiction.
In that turbulent period for spouses, Matthew’s accident of August 5, 1987, was much mentioned. The actor was driving a rented BMW 316 while in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, and crossed into the wrong lane and collided with another car. 28-year-old driver Anna Gallagher and her mother, co-driver Margaret Doherty, 63, died at the scene.
Broderick was on holiday in Ireland with actress Jennifer Gray with whom he began a romance after they met on the set of ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ and it was then that their relationship was revealed. Matthew broke his leg and ribs in the accident, had a concussion and collapsed his lungs, and told police he did not remember the traffic and did not know why he was in the wrong lane. Jennifer only had bruises and it hit her hard that the dead driver was her peer.
‘The first thing I remember is waking up in the hospital with a weird feeling in my leg,’ Matthew said. He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and faced a five-year prison sentence, but was eventually given a lesser sentence for reckless driving and had to pay £ 100.
By the way, Gray and Broderick broke up after the fatal accident and their relationship just couldn’t withstand the media pressure because of it all. They were also reportedly engaged.
