Disney is working on the film adaptation: "The Graveyard Book"

The film adaptation of the young adult novel "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman is once again in active development. Walt Disney Studios has also chosen the director, no less than Marc Forster (Christopher Robin, World War Z, Quantum of Solace). The film will be produced by Forster's partner Renée Wolfe through their 2Dux2 banner alongside Gil Netter. David Magee is in charge of the screenplay(Life of Pi, Mary Poppins Returns, The Children of Blood and Bone).

Disney, Forster and Wolfe have already successfully collaborated on the feature film "Christopher Robin", which 2Dux2 also produced. Magee also previously worked with Forester on "Finding Neverland" as well as the upcoming comedy "A Man Called Otto". But even though everything seems to be finally coming together as it should, it should be taken into account that the project is only in the very early stages of production. So far, it has not been revealed exactly what kind of project it is, but considering the creative forces involved, it seems likely that it is a feature film.

The film adaptation of the novel has gone through several stages over the years. Originally developed for "Miramax" by Neil Jordan, the rights were later bought by Walt Disney Pictures with the intention of Henry Selick (Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas) directing the project. After that, Ron Howard (How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Willow) was in talks to direct, based on a script by Rowan Joffe.

Among other things, the novel won the prestigious Hugo and Locus genre awards in 2009, as well as the Newbery literary award, the award for the most significant children's book of the year by the American Library Association, and the recognition for the best children's book awarded by Kirkus Reviews.

The plot of the novel follows a boy named Niko Owens, also known as Thread. He would be a perfectly normal boy if we except the fact that Niko lives at the cemetery, and that he is raised by spirits. He has a protector who belongs neither to the world of the living nor to the world of the dead. Life in the cemetery can be quite fun for a boy, but Niko knows almost nothing about the world outside the cemetery and is almost unaware that there are other people, people like him, and they are a little different. And that should change. Because there is someone outside the cemetery who would like to see Niko dead.
