'Eternals' banned in three countries because of gay scenes
Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar refuse to show the film "Eternals" until all the parts that show same-sex relationships are removed, and their decision was commented on by a member of the cast of the Marvel film, Angelina Jolie.
Angelina Jolie, who plays the character of Tena in the movie "Eternals", commented on the request of these three countries for Disney to make changes in the film so that they would allow its showing, which Disney did not accept.
"I'm sad because that audience won't have a chance to watch a great movie. I’m also proud of Marvel for rejecting their request. I still can’t understand that we live in a world where people can’t view the Fastos family as a beautiful community filled with love. I don't understand why something like that can make anyone angry or why some see it as a threat. Disapproval and disrespect of such things is ignorant," said Angelina Jolie.
Namely, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar find the marriage between Phaistos and Ben unacceptable. This is also the first time that a same-sex relationship has been shown in a Marvel film.
"Eternals" has been in theaters since the beginning of this month, and is directed by Chloe Zhao, a successful director whose film "Nomadland" marked the Oscars this year.
