For $ 300 million, Square Enix sold 3 studios
For $300 million, Square Enix sold three studios from the West, along with Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief with associated rights and ancillary businesses.
If the envisaged regulatory bodies approve the sale, the Embracer Group will become 100% owned by the end of July this year.
Embracer Group will thus become the owner of three well-known studios, namely Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, but also Square Enix Montreal, which will probably no longer be called that after the acquisition.
The three studios currently have over 1,100 employees in eight locations around the world, and in addition to Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Cain as the most famous games.
Embracer Group will appropriate about 50 more titles from these three studios, rights to additional businesses, and all other operations related to them.
Unfortunately, there is no information about the plans for all the mentioned games, but we remind everyone of the fact that only a few weeks ago Crystal Dynamics announced a new Tomb Raider game and announced that it is being worked on a lot.
With the acquisition of these studies, the Embracer Group will stand behind 124 studios, including Gearbox, Saber Interactive, and THQ Nordic, and will have over 14,000 employees.
Under this company, there is also the Dark Horse comics and the company for the so-called entertainment. Just Cause, Life is Strange and Outriders are currently out of the company, and the IO Interactive studio split from Square Enix and the Hitman franchise some time ago, is also not part of the deal.
Ubisoft has announced to everyone that whoever is willing to buy it is up for sale, Sony has bought Destiny publisher Bungie ($ 3.6 billion), Xbox i.e. Microsoft now owns Activision Blizzard ($ 69 billion) and Take-Two has bought Zyng game publisher for nearly $ 13 billion.
