Zac Efron (34) usually known for his role in High School Musical changed his look to the point of stunning and shocking fans. The new teaser for the Australian survival movie Gold dropped on January 31. Here we have the opportunity to see him far away from his usual look as he is covered in injuries and dirt. Also, we could see that he is surrounded by a desert landscape sporting a scruffy beard and tattered clothes.

Although Zac's resume is filled with romance and comedies it was the challenge of this different role to draw Anthony Hayes to cast Efron.

The actor shared the trailer on his Instagram account and opened up about his experience on set.

"Filming this was brutal— but I love this s--t," he wrote ON INSTAGRAM POSTFEATURIN MOVIE TRAILER. "So proud of everyone involved and thank you to everyone who has watched so far."

About the movie

We first heard that Zac Efron is to be acting in the movie "Gold" back in November 2020 by Stan, home of original Australian original productions.

The movie "Gold" is a great thriller showing us what will people do lead by greed and all the things they are willing to do to secure themselves a fortune. The movie is set in a dystopian near future with an environmental breakdown. The plot starts when two drifters played by Zac Efron and Anthony Hayes travel through the outback to discover an enormous nugget of gold.

This gold would lead them to immense wealth so they try to extract it with their tools and even with their truck but unfortunately they fail. After the unsuccessful attempts, they agreed that one of them should go and acquire necessary equipment and that the other one should stay (Zac) and protect their gold.

The main plot starts when one of them stays behind and strut to struggle to endure a harsh desert climate and enduring storms, preying wild dogs and mysterious intruders. Efron's character quickly starts to doubt that he has been abandoned his own fate.

Production and release

The movie is directed by Anthony Hayes who is also acting as Zac Efron's charather partner. The production started back in November 2020 and is set in South Australia. The film includes the real desert sandstorm instead of using fans and sand. The movie premiered firstly on Australia Day on January 26 and was shown in only selected cinemas since January 13. Reviews for " Gold" are good and positive at all reviewing sites.
