The author of the Dukan diet is Dr. Dukan, who has sold more than 10 million copies of his book explaining the principles of this diet called ‘I Can’t Lose Weight’. It is known that his diet helped Kate Middleton lose weight before the wedding, and Jennifer Lopez got back in shape after giving birth with help of this diet.

Here are the basic principles of this diet:

Dukan's diet is based on the consumption of protein-containing foods and a significant reduction in carbohydrate and fat intake. Thanks to protein, you will not feel hungry, and a small amount of carbohydrates will save you from excess calories. As a result, rapid weight loss occurs, and weight loss is due to a reduction in adipose tissue, not muscle mass. At the same time, the body heals. This diet improves the condition of the skin, hair and the work of internal organs.

The diet consists of 4 phases: two for weight loss and two for avoiding weight gain again. In the middle of the two phases, weight loss should reach the desired weight.

These are the four stages of Dukan's diet:

Attack (1-7 days): You start your diet by eating unlimited amounts of low-fat protein plus 1.5 tablespoons of soft grain cereals a day.

Cruise (1-12 months): Alternately eat low-fat protein one day and the next low-fat protein with starch-free vegetables, plus 2 tablespoons of oat bran a day.

Consolidation (depends): You eat unlimited amounts of low-fat protein and vegetables, some carbohydrates and fats, and during one day a week you eat only low-fat protein, plus 2.5 tablespoons of oat bran a day.

Maintenance (hereinafter): You generally follow the rules from the third phase. However, you do not have to be strict, as long as your weight is stable. The intake of oat bran is increased to 3 tablespoons per day.

The maintenance phase is the last phase of the Dukan diet. It is based on maintaining the achieved results. There are essentially no forbidden foods, but the following principles should be adhered to:

  • Use the consolidation phase to plan meals.
  • Continue with one day of pure protein from the attack phase.
  • Continue to consume 3 tablespoons of oatmeal daily.
