Most pirated movies in 2021

Interestingly, almost all of the films on the list are the most pirated in 2021. At some point, they were legally online.

German director Werner Herzog said in a 2019 lecture that he was "very proud" of the work. In 2013, he talked about film piracy, and described it as the most successful form of distribution, after a colleague commented that he only managed to get to his films through illegal pirated sites–it is certain that those whose films top the list of most pirated films in 2021 will not be able to get to the top of the list. They wouldn't agree with that.

By the end of the lecture, Herzog said that piracy bothered him a little, since he would like to make some money from his films, but noted that if in a country it is the only channel for accessing an author's films, then he supports it.

Movies are more available today than before thanks to streaming services, so legal channels exist, but they're not free.

Citizens all over the world are still rushing to pirate sites, so they can watch a new movie as soon as possible.

It was believed that streaming services and easier access to content would reduce the desire for pirated copies, but that did not happen. Piracy has become more popular than ever before, and viewers are increasingly turning to pirated websites for live streaming, as well as torrents recorded uneasy popularity.

This means that distributors take more risks when a title is published simultaneously on both streaming services and cinemas since it's easier for pirates to download a movie from an online site. Cinema owners criticize this strategy and say piracy is destroying box office revenue.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, some of the biggest titles have simultaneously appeared in cinemas and online. Weekly lists of the most pirated films made by TorrentFreak have shown how much it hurts the industry since movies that have found themselves on a streaming service would quickly top the list - Mortal Kombat has come out in cinemas and on HBO Max, Godzilla vs. Kong as well, Black Widow on the big screen and platform Disney+.

It is the film Black Widow that tops the list of those which have led the way in the number of illegal downloads during 2021 (Marvel has suffered the most again), followed by Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad.
