Phoebe Dynevor as Art Deco artist in new film 'The Colour Room'

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor replaced corsets, fans, and picnics in nature with steam and smoke from factories in the first half of the 20th century. In the new film ‘The Colour Room’, she portrays Clarice Cliff, a famous English ceramic artist from the Art Deco era.

Clarice Cliff started working in the factory as a thirteen-year-old, and with her talent, effort, and courage she broke through the glass ceiling and saved the factory from collapse during the Great Depression. Moving away from traditional ceramic design, she launched a whole new style called ‘Bizarre’ which was extremely popular in the 1930s and became a name known throughout the UK and beyond.

The life story, strength, and innovation of Clarice Cliff are enough to intrigue us for this film in which, along with Phoebe Dynevor, Matthew Goode also stars. The designer herself was a woman ahead of her time, saying: "Having a little fun at my work does not make me any less of an artist and people who appreciate truly beautiful and original creations in pottery are not frightened by innocent tomfoolery!"
