Prince Charles has a plan: The children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will never receive royal titles

According to the Daily Mail, if the latest rumors about Charles’ plans for the future of the British monarchy are true, the children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Archie and Lilibet, will never be awarded titles. As reported, the Prince of Wales has made it clear that their children will not receive titles one day when he takes the throne, although according to the current established rule ‘the grandson of a ruler has the right to be a prince’.

This explains why Archie and Lilibet do not currently hold the titles but were expected to be awarded them later in the future. Namely, the moment their grandfather, Prince Charles, takes the royal seat that now currently belongs to Queen Elizabeth, his grandchildren should be automatically awarded titles, but he is obviously planning to officially change that rule.

A source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that Charles said he would ‘change key legal documents’ (probably a document from the 1917 inheritance) to ensure that Archie and his younger sister Lilibet could not inherit royal titles one day when he becomes king.

'Harry and Meghan were told that Archie would never be a prince, even when Charles became king,' said the source. If this is true, this Charles decision is not actually directed against Harry, Meghan, and their children nor is it the result of Sussex’s constant quarrel with the royal family but is part of a larger plan under which Charles must reduce the number of employed members of the royal court. According to the Daily Mail, the decision stems from Charles ’belief that the public wants to reduce the number of members of the royal family.

Charles never hid he wants to numerically reduce the monarchy one day when he becomes king,’ a source told The Sun. 'He realizes that the public doesn't want to pay a huge monarchy and, as he said, at this rate, the balcony at Buckingham Palace would probably collapse.'

But it should be noted that there is a precedent for this kind of change that Charles reportedly wants to make. In 2012, Queen Elizabeth issued a new, her own document of inheritance on the eve of the birth of Prince George, which introduced significant changes to ensure that all the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton receive titles.

Although the Cambridge children, like Archie and Lilibet, are all great-grandchildren of the Queen, for the reason that William is the direct heir in the line of inheritance, the old rules dictated that his eldest son automatically receive the title. The Queen’s change changed the previous standard and ensured that all the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton, including their daughters, were given titles.

As for Charles ’alleged plans to change the rules on inheriting titles, the palace has no comment yet. ‘We will not speculate about the legacy or comment on rumors coming from America,’ a royal source told The Sun in recent reports.
