Simon Gallup left The Cure
On his Facebook profile, Gallup stated as the reason 'that he is fed up with betrayal' and that he is leaving 'with a heavy heart'.
Bassist Simon Gallup was the second longest-serving member of The Cure, along with Robert Smith. He joined the band in 1979 after playing in Cult Hero, a side project by Robert Smith. He left the band for the first time in 1982 but returned in 1984.
"I declare with a slightly heavy heart that I am no longer a member of The Cure!", Gallup wrote in a public post on August 14 on his personal Facebook profile, adding: "Good luck to them all…"
When asked by a friend if he was okay after the news, Gallup wrote, "I'm fine Vicky… I'm just fed up with betrayal."
Robert Smith told The Irish Times in 2018: "If Gallup leaves the band, then it will no longer be called The Cure." Speaking to NME a year later, Smith added that his and Simon's relationship "without a doubt" is the most dangerous combination in The Cure.
