Skydance signed a deal with Trevorrow to direct and produce Atlantis!

Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) has chosen his next film project, and a new adventure is taking him under the sea, to be precise in Atlantis. Over the weekend, it was announced that Skydance had signed a deal with Trevorrow to direct and produce  "Atlantis". Trevorrow will produce the film through his Metronome Film Company with David Ellison, Dan Goldberg and Don Granger producing for Skydance. The script for the film is written by Charmaine DeGraté (House of Dragon, Star Wars: The Acolyte).

For Trevorrow, "Atlantis" will be the first film project after last year's "Jurassic World: Dominion". The project was previously at Universal, which actually hired Trevorrow to direct and produce "Atlantis". An earlier draft of the screenplay was then written by Dante Harper (Alien: Covenant, Edge of Tomorrow) from a story conceived by Trevorrow and Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies). Not much was known about the details of the project at the time, only that it would be about a lost continent in the Indian Ocean (and not a city, because that is a story that has been chewed up many times already), a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology. In an interview with Empire, Trevorrow then stated why he really wanted to realize that project. 

"I'm fascinated by it. It's the only thing that's equal to dinosaurs for me. I guess I tend to go back in time. At that time when we had other types of creatures that are no more. There are so many things about it that I find fascinating.” Trevorrow stated.

DeGraté and Trevorrow reimagined the story from the ground up. But the film is still a fantasy adventure based on a mythical civilization that sank.

Casting is yet to begin, but given the new developments, it is expected that it won't be long before the main cast is revealed.
