The first USB-C cables for 240W charging
According to Tom's Hardware, the first USB-C cables supporting 240W charging have recently been released, albeit they are not yet for sale, more than a year after the USB Implementers Forum announced the specification's implementation in the popular connector system.
According to the information provided, a business called Club3D is responsible for the introduction of these new USB-C connections, the main advantage of which is the aforementioned 240W charge, which translates into data transmission rates of up to 40Gbps.
These new USB-C cables are based on the Extended Power Range standard introduced by the USB Implementers Forum last year, that is, USB-C 2.1, with the potential to provide up to 240W, or 48V at 5A.
Because the 240W charging power is shared by all, the capabilities of these powerful USB-C connections include support for 8K video output at 60 fps depending on the model, which determines the bandwidth for data transfer.
Club3D has launched three kinds of USB-C cables with these features. Its fundamental parameters are as follows:
- CAC-1573: 2-meter USB-C 2.0 cable with 480 Mbps speed and 240W charging (48V / 5A)
- CAC-1575: 2-meter USB-C 4 Gen 2×2 cable with 20Gbps speed, 4K/60Hz video output, and 240W charging (48V/5A)
- CAC-1576: 1-meter USB-C 4 Gen 3×2 cable with 40Gbps speed, 8K/60Hz video output, and 240W charging (48V/5A)
In any case, the question is who needs this, at least for the time being, because teams (for example, very demanding gamers) with such energy needs do not usually charge in this manner, despite the fact that everything is, as they say, just around the corner and even smartphones point in this direction.
However, if you are interested in these high-performance USB-C connections, keep in mind that, while they are now featured in the Club3D store, they do not yet have a price or a firm release date, but you will be able to find them on Amazon and other specialist stores when they become available.
