The most charming village: Cartmel

Regularly on the list of the most beautiful villages in the world are all those charming medieval buildings such as Ireland and England are full of. Stone narrow streets, medieval churches and chapels, houses several hundred years old but renovated so that you would like to spend all the holidays in life. All of this is a part of the charm that abounds in these old villages where history still lives on unusually charming and customizable mode.

One such place is Cartmel, a village in Cumbria, in the southern part of the Lake District or Lakeland, as the mountainous area in the extreme north-west of England is called. Cartmel is considered one of the most picturesque villages in England, and when you see the photos it will be clear to you why.

It is also known for its 12th-century Cartmel priory and for its beautiful stained glass windows, sculptures, and ancient balconies where choirs once sang. Behind the village square is the Cartmel Priory Gatehouse, now a Heritage Center that displays the history of the monastery and the village.

Cartmel is today perhaps best known for its racetrack which attracts thousands of visitors to this small place for several racing meetings each year. However, outside of those race days, Cartmel is an oasis of peace, with a slow river called the Eaa meandering through the village, past cobbled streets lined with beautiful cottages and historic pubs and shops.

This village is known for the quality of its restaurants, and in its offer, it has included two restaurants with Michelin stars. That are Rogan & Co and three-time winner of L'Enclume stars signed by the same genius, Simon Rogan. With his unique style and sense of business, he brought this extra exclusive dose of gastro hedonism to this picturesque place. Every corner of this village is different and special in its own way.

If you visit Cartmel, you will also taste its greatest specialty, sticky caramel pudding. Although you may feel trapped in a time capsule here, this is what contributes to the appeal of this magical English village. We suggest to visit this beautiful village because we are sure you won't regret it.
