Who Has The Best Chance Of Winning An Oscar This Year?

The list of Oscar-nominated films per category revealed a couple of days ago tells a lot.

There are relatively few movies or persons that have no place among the nominees, but there are several titles that did not cut the renowned film award.
Another trend is the low number of nominees for a film of the year for films made by streaming services (just three), indicating that voters preferred vintage movie companies' work. Let's start at the beginning and work our way through the list.

Best male role
DiCaprio’s absence is a surprise, but voters, critics, and audiences alike were not thrilled with his film Don’t Look Up. The rest may have been expected. Benedict Cumberbatch and Will Smith will compete for the award.

Best movie
The exclusion of the film House Of Gucci is surprising, but all of the other nominees are completely deserved on the list. The film Power Of The Dog, directed by Jane Campion, is a compelling favorite with a touch of Spielberg's West Side Story.

Best female role
Lady Gaga was not among the Oscar nominations for House Of Gucci, despite receiving a Golden Globe nomination, a BAFT Award, and an Actors Guild Award. The film did not go well with the audience and a bunch of famous stars and the familiar theme was not enough for the nominations. Jennifer Hudson has also not been considered for the role of Aretha Franklin. The major reason is that the film was released six months ago, by the beginning of the year, and memories of that biographical musical drama had faded. Nicole Kidman is a clear choice, because of her performance of Lucille Ball, one of America's finest comedians.

Best female supporting role
Cate Blanchet's absence from Nightmare Alley is a major disappointment, though it would have been a lot easier if she had been nominated for the lead female role. Judi Dench and Kirsten Dunst are favorites.

Best male supporting role
Bradley Cooper should have been nominated, but he wasn't. In Power Of The Dog, Jesse Plimons is fantastic and has the best chance of winning. However, unexpected outcomes, such as a second Oscar for JK Simmons, are possible.

Best director
Denis Villeneuve's Dina's absence from the directing category is more of a sin than a failure or a surprise. Jane Campion, followed by Steven Spielberg, has the highest possibilities.

Best foreign movie
We were expecting Iranian veteran and hero Asghar Frhadi, but instead, we received a fantastic adaptation of Murakami's novel Drive My Car. In this category, Worst Person In The World is the favorite.
