3 DAYS BATTERY, SNAPDRAGON CHIPS: Not a phone

Lenovo, widely known in the laptop industry for its ThinkPad line of high-quality business workstations, has announced the first mobile workstation based on the latest Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 mobile platform.

The new ThinkPad X13s was developed in partnership with Qualcomm and is outfitted with a premium Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 platform optimized for ultra-mobile laptops running Windows 11.

The ThinkPad X13s is intended to be a cross between the world's greatest premium cellphones and laptops. The 13.4 mm thin magnesium shell houses a completely silent next-generation PC with excellent specs.

This largely refers to up to 32 GB of LPDDR4x memory and a 1 TB PCIe SSD, as well as a 50 Wh battery that allows up to an amazing 28 hours of autonomy, which is enough for more than three working days of operation without a charger.

The 13.3-inch screen, like other recent Lenovo models, has a 16:10 aspect ratio, which we appreciated mainly because of the somewhat larger desktop. This screen diagonal is ideal for mobile workstations since the proportions are modest enough that you can always take your laptop with you while also being large enough to work comfortably on.

When all of the foregoing is combined with a weight of just one kilogram, it is evident that the ThinkPad X13s is intended to be carried with you at all times.

The ThinkPad X13s is available with a touch screen or a unique Eyesafe variant with much lower blue light emissions, which will be particularly useful for day-to-day work. The Snapdragon platform supports Wi-Fi 6E, the next-generation wireless connection, as well as a 5G modem for an always-connected experience no matter where you are.

At the very top of the screen is what Lenovo refers to as the communications section, which includes a 5 MP front camera with artificial intelligence-based smart framing and an optional infrared camera with up to three microphones for intelligent noise suppression during conference calls.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 platform has a Computer Vision engine with improved frame detection for faster and more effective logging, as well as new security choices, improved privacy, and automated dimming or turning off the screen when not in use to save battery life.

According to Lenovo, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 platform offers the best of both worlds: high performance (as expected from a premium business laptop) and incredibly optimized usage. Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is manufactured in a 5 nm technology and is suited for Windows computers. It is also the most powerful and efficient Qualcomm platform.

It employs four ARM Cortex X1 fast cores running at 3 GHz and four more efficient A78 cores running at 2.4 GHz, which is quite similar in concept to Intel Alder Lake processors, indicating that these two platforms are slowly but steadily approaching one other.

What's more, the ThinkPad X13s never forgets its business heritage and comes with the Lenovo Services bundle. Lenovo emphasizes extensive collaboration with Qualcomm, Microsoft, and third-party software solutions, which is critical for Windows application compatibility on the ARM architecture, particularly for business software such as Microsoft 365, Zoom, and others.

The ThinkPad X13s will be available from May for $ 1,500, depending on memory configuration, screen type, and 5G nano-SIM support.
