Bleach bath for shiny hair?

That is why an alternative to the bleaching process has appeared on the TikTok network, that is, washing hair in a bleach. This process has been known for years and promises to lighten hair and rinse old, darker tones with a shorter and simpler procedure than classic hair bleaching. Although it sounds pretty simple and tempting, you should be careful.

What exactly is bleach washing?

Bleach washing refers to the process in which bleach is applied to wet hair, usually after the coloring technique on the hair. “Bleach washing is most often used to remove and wash off old or darker toppings from the hair, to lighten the hair, or to alleviate the difference in shades between the base color and the strands" - hairdresser Jenny Perlman said. Also, although it can be applied to the whole hair, bleach washing usually treats only the tips for a lightening effect.

Bleach washing is done in hairdressing salons in hair washing sinks, where a bleach mixed with water is applied to the hair so that it does not have a too strong effect. Since it is applied to wet hair, the process takes much shorter than the classic hair bleaching process, where the bleach is applied to strands of dry hair.

Perform bleach washing at home or not?

Although TikTok is full of people who are currently trying bleach washing at home, hairdressers warn that the process should be done exclusively in hair salons. They said that bleach washing is not even used that often and that clients very rarely look for it because of the risk that such treatment of hair brings.

Also, with improper bleaching, hair can be irreparably damaged and become dry and brittle, and hair loss can occur. Hairdressers advise avoiding this TikTok trend and leaving the care of the new hair color to professionals. They warn that although bleach washing is used for the so-called correcting the color, or getting a nicer shade, the process is really unpredictable and unreliable, especially if you try it at home. And since bleach is applied to wet hair, it should be emphasized that in this case, the same results cannot be expected as with classic bleaching.
