GPD WIN MAX 2: Portable Console with Ryzen 7 6800U + PCIe 4.0 SSD
We're seeing more "portable" consoles, and this time it's from one of the most iconic brands, GPD, which announced the GPD WIN MAX 2, a top-of-the-line model that stands out for using a generous 10.1-inch IPS touch panel (protected by the Gorilla Glass 5 lamination) with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
This panel can be powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U with 8 cores and 16 threads Zen3 with AMD Radeon 680M graphics (768 Stream Processors) and 16GB/32GB of LPDDR5 @ 6400 MHz RAM, or an Intel Core i7-1260P with 12 cores and 16 threads (4x P-Core + 8x E-Core) and Intel Iris Xe graphics (768 Shaders) and 16GB/32GB of RAM.
Both versions include a 1TB/2TB capacity NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD (second slot free for another SSD), WiFi 6 + Bluetooth 5.2 + 4G LTE connectivity (optional), SD card reader (up to 312 MB/s), 4-speaker system, Thunderbolt 4 (Intel) or USB 4.0 (AMD) port, 3x USB 3.2 Gen2, video output in the form of HDMI 2.3, 67 Wh battery (up to 6 - 8 hours of moderate use).
The GPD WIN MAX 2 has dimensions of 227 x 160 x 23 mm thick and a weight of 1005 grams (compared to the Steam Deck's dimensions of 298 x 117 x 49 mm and 669 grams), a cooling system with a radiator, double copper heat pipe and turbine fan, a customizable triple trigger on the rear (on each side), a double vibration motor, 6-axis gyroscope, magnetized caps to cover the game controllers
Let's get to the fascinating part: the price. The version with Ryzen 7, 16 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD costs 999 dollars (as does the Core i5 with the same configuration); $1,199 with 32GB RAM, and $1,299 with 32GB RAM + 2TB SSD. The console is now listed on Indiegogo but cannot be purchased. There is at least one estimated delivery date for September.
