Mandy Moore says no to epidural

The famous pregnant Mandy Moore spoke publicly about her health condition, and why she will give birth to her second child completely naturally, without an epidural. This surprised many, as many of her colleagues sometimes opt for a cesarean section "just to make everything go as quickly and painlessly as possible".

However, Mandy has what's called ITP, immune thrombocytopenic purpura — an autoimmune disease that causes her platelets to be too low for an epidural, she noted on "NBC's Today Parents" earlier this month during an interview.

It is mostly "triggered" by pregnancy, and the patient's body then "mistakenly attacks its own platelets or fragments of blood cells that normally help in clotting", explained the "Cedars-Sinai Medical" center in Los Angeles for the media.

This disorder can be the cause of bruising and internal bleeding, so if the doctor thinks that the pregnant woman's new platelet count is very low, they advise her against an epidural in order to avoid the risk of blood accumulation and hematoma, some studies have shown.

"It was terrible, but okay, I can do it again. I wish there was a cure, at least as an option, but what can I do" - said Moore during the show, recalling the first birth, which also took place without epidural anesthesia.
