NETFLIX: WHEN ONE THUMB UP IS NOT ENOUGH

Netflix is introducing a new button to help them better organize your front page and give you better suggestions on what to watch.

The new option that Netflix is introducing will join the existing options from the movie Gladiator: Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down.

This feature is there to help the algorithm used by Netflix better understand your taste and suggest better titles. Two thumbs up may seem a bit bizarre, instead of a scale, for example, but who asks us ...

Anyway, a double thumb up will mean guess what?

That you like something very much. Netflix says it's the most sought-after option among users, and that thanks to two thumbs up, this service will be able to better assess what it has to offer in the future.

Hand on heart, Netflix has a very rudimentary like / dislike system that can help with the choice to some extent, but a straight scale of 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 would be much better, from a user's point of view.

We are now one step closer with two thumbs up. Admittedly, it would be nice for someone to give us two thumbs down for series like Sexy Beasts and romantic comedies ... just to know what not to show us.

Some of us who watched Netflix over VPN many years ago may even remember the old five-star rating system, which was replaced by thumbs in 2017.

Now it seems to bother them because users want a little gray in their black and white decisions, so a new option would be a breath of fresh air, which would help them navigate through the huge library of titles on this platform.

New options

On the other hand, we can’t really say that Netflix isn’t working on improving the user experience, as this platform is constantly testing some novelties that help us choose what to watch in the evening when kids go to bed.

Thus, the Top 10 line was introduced in 2020, then Play Something in 2021, together with the Continue Watching line on all devices.

The company announces that this is only a part of the novelties that this platform is preparing and that we can expect many new tools that will help us choose the right content for us.

They also say they are aware that users are very annoyed by the process of choosing what to watch, and that they are working on mechanisms that will significantly shorten that time so that each user has personalized space every time they turn on Netflix.
