"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 2 is coming!

If any of you are excited about the second season of Amazon's "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power", then we have some news for you. Whether they are good or bad, we leave it to you to judge. The second season of the series already started with filming, and Amazon Prime revealed who will be behind the camera. This time it is an entirely female line-up, with a total of three female directors. Charlotte Brändström, who directed two episodes in the first season: "Udûn" and "The Eye", will direct again. She thus takes over as lead director from Wayne Che Yip, who directed four episodes in the first season, including the finale. The other two directors of the upcoming season are Sanaa Hamri(Shameless, The Wheel of Time) and Louise Hooper (The Sandman, The Witcher) who have not yet worked on the series. Each of the two will direct two episodes of the second season's eight episodes.

Over the past few weeks, Amazon Prime also announced a cast of 15 new actors, including Will Keen (His Dark Materials), Oliver Alvin-Wilson (Collateral), Stuart Bowman (The Pact), Gavi Singh Chera (Vera), William Chubb (The Sandman) and Kevin Eldon (Game of Thrones). An unexpected replacement awaits us. Sam Hazeldine (Peaky Blinders) is taking over the role of Adar from Joseph Mawle.

The showrunners and executive producers of the second season are JD Payne and Patrick McKay. Other executive producers include Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, with Brändström serving as co-executive producer.

According to information from Amazon, the first season of the series was watched by more than 100 million people worldwide, with more than 24 billion minutes of streaming. The series attracted more than 25 million global viewers on its first day, setting a record for the best premiere in Amazon history.

For the first season, critics and fans' reactions were divided, but the showrunners promised that the series would be "grandiose and better" from now on. For now, it has not yet been revealed when exactly the new season will arrive, but it is expected to be in 2024. As for the plot, it is, as expected, under the veil of secrecy, except for a few details. McKay and Payne have already stated that much of the second season will focus on Sauron's development as an anti-hero. What we do know is that in the second season we are expecting more iconic locations, famous characters from Middle-earth, and what is perhaps the most interesting thing: a massive battle through as many as two episodes.
