The shocking confession of the famous Al Pacino
She died before I became famous, but she saved my life.
Al Pacino, whose parts we adored and who left a stamp on the entire world with his honest appearance, grew up in very humble circumstances, with divorced parents, and at considerable risk that the streets of New York would take over the function of an educator.
Despite the fact that he lost his mother in his early twenties, and then her father, his grandfather, with whom he also grew up and who was the second most important figure in young Pacino's life, this cinematic great recalls the important life lessons that his late mother instilled in him throughout his life.
She was the one who spared the world from losing such a valuable acting gift by being rigorous, disciplined and loving to her kid.
- My mother died before I became successful. Our apartment was on the top floor and it was incredibly cold. From below, from the street, my friends are calling me to run together through the streets, but my mother won't let me go outside. I was terribly angry and kept shouting. She put up with my objections and didn't give in, but that's how she saved my life - said the famous actor.
- You see, all those guys who invited me for a walk back then are no longer in this world. She wanted me not to go out late and waste time running around the streets, but to do my homework. And that's why I'm sitting here talking to you right now. It's all very simple, isn't it? But that's how we were - he said on one occasion.
He also discussed how he ran away from home for fun rather than because he was sad or mistreated.
- I started running away from home at the age of 11 and I did it for quite a long time, not because I was unhappy, but for adventure, for having a good time. My mother always understood that we had a great relationship filled with love- Pacino told the Guardian.
When Al's mother became ill, he was just 16 years old. And, while she encouraged him to follow his heart and acting goals, owing to sickness, he was unable to continue working, and young Pacino was forced to look for work to support his mother. For the first time, real-life concerns got in the way of one boy's dreams.
- When I turned 16, my mother had to stop working due to illness and I had to help her. It was the first time she became completely rational about my future and very negative about my acting dreams.
He worked with his grandfather and took on other tasks, but none of them satisfied him. He had enormous aspirations and never gave up, but he couldn't persuade his mother of them.
- I didn't manage to keep jobs for a long time. I kept telling my mother that I would soon do something big, that I would soon meet the person who would make me a star. But she never believed me - explained the actor.
Al Pacino was 29 years old when he became a famous actor, and his grandfather and mother Rose did not see his global success.
- My mother was only 43 years old when she passed away. We didn't really get along at the time, and I think I only recently realized how much I really miss her- admitted the actor.
