Jack Gleeson became famous for the role of King Joffrey in the series "Game of Thrones", and after the series, the actor decided to retire from the world of acting.
Jack Gleeson is a 29-year-old actor who became famous for his role in the series "Game of Thrones", playing the arrogant and conceited Joffrey Baratheon, but his real side is completely different from this one. This actor is described as a very critical, sensitive, and intelligent person, and considering his criticism and thinking, Jack decided to retire from acting and so today he leads a different lifestyle far from fame.
Even during the series, Jack had a problem dealing with fame, and in 2014, he clearly said why. "I heard some of my greatest heroes speak, people like the Dalai Lama, Malcolm X, Albert Einstein ... Everything I did - I acted in a TV show and pretended to be evil, for money," the actor said.
And in order not to stay that way, Jack decided to change and continued his studies. From 2010 to 2015, he attended "Trinity College Dublin" where he studied philosophy and theology. He was even chosen as a scholarship holder in 2012. And for those who think that the term "theorist" simply refers to anyone who attends higher education, it has a special meaning at "Trinity College Dublin" because the honor is awarded only to those who achieve a first class average in a series of challenging voluntary exams.
In 2014, he gave a great speech about his feelings towards celebrity culture, in which he spoke about his fame and celebrity worship. In short, Gleeson positively condemned the mechanisms of fame as we know it. "Since the series aired, I have gained an insider's view of the pervasive, yet often mysterious aspect of society, namely our celebrity culture. Strangers on the street are now calling me Jack and my public image is being democratized by fans and institutions via the internet. After hearing the news that I got the role of Joffrey, I really didn't expect all the side things that come with an acting job in a successful television program," the actor said at the time.
Gleeson points out that as an actor who was lucky enough to experience some success, he was thrown into a whole new realm and he felt that what he felt about it didn't matter - because it's part of fame. "Unknowingly, I signed an invisible contract that required me to enter a strange new part of society," he continued.
"People suddenly wanted to take pictures of me on the street, and journalists were interested in what kind of socks I prefer. It was an environment from which I immediately wanted to retire." Jack described.
He used sociological theories to defend his claim that celebrity worship and imitation can be harmful because "the role model does not feel obliged to present appropriate values that need to be adopted." And judging by the allegations made, Jack justified his need to study. However, in addition to studying, he appeared in several other roles in the series "Out of Her Mind" as well as in the theater plays "Bears in Space", "The Water Orchid", and "Science Fiction Radio Hour".
