How rain affects our mood
Depression is a serious disorder that has its own symptoms and diagnosis.
When it rains, it can happen that someone tells us how it threw them into depression and how they don't know what to do with themselves, however, although the rain can really affect our mood, it is certainly not that serious.
Depression is a serious disorder that has its own symptoms and diagnosis, not something that just happens to people, which means that rainy weather can't exactly "throw us into depression." It can certainly affect our mood and it is not unusual that we then seem to have less energy. There is something called a seasonal affective disorder, but it happens to people during the winter.
So why can a simple rain affect our mood so much even in the summer? First of all, there is the lack of sun, which is inevitable in that situation. We know that we need sunlight to regulate serotonin levels, which our body later converts into melatonin to help us fall asleep. Therefore, the lack of Sun due to rain can affect our sleep cycle and fatigue.
Another thing is that then we can be bored, feel closed in the house and unable to go out and enjoy the season. Then it seems to us that we are too tired and that we lack strength for everything, and many associate this with the isolation that happened during the pandemic. That's why you should use every moment of good weather to walk and enjoy the fresh air.
When the rain turns into a downpour, some people may feel uneasy about climate change, because extreme weather reminds us that this world is changing, that average temperatures are different than before, and that this is something we cannot influence.
What can we do about it? If the rain isn't too heavy and it doesn't thunder, it's not bad to take a walk to clear your head and show yourself that it's nothing terrible. Psychologists also recommend that we exercise lightly, so that we don't have the feeling that we can't move, preferably with our favorite music. You can also read a book, but not on heavy topics, and also a conversation with family or friends can bring the necessary energy.
