Trailer for "The Wandering Earth 2" is out!

The trailer for "The Wandering Earth 2", the prequel to the 2019 Chinese hit "The Wandering Earth", was released recently. Like its predecessor, the prequel is based on the short story of the same name by the Chinese science fiction author Liu Cixin, best known for the award-winning SF novel The Three-Body Problem, the first in the Remembrance of Earth's Past series. The film was directed and written by Frant Gwo, better known in China as Guo Fan (Lee's Adventure, My Old Classmate, The Wandering Earth, The Sacrifice), and Liu Cixin is one of the executive producers. Famous Chinese action actor Wu Jing(Wolf Warrior 2) reprises his role from the original film. Other main roles include Li Xuejian, Sha Yi, Ning Li, Andy Lau, Wang Zhi and Zhu Yanmanzi.

The first film, "The Wandering Earth", which was released by Netflix for all territories outside of China, revolved around a mission to save human civilization as the sun neared the end of its life cycle, forcing humanity to build giant engines to move the Earth out of the solar system.

We have a relatively short synopsis for the prequel so far, and the trailer doesn't reveal much. Humans built huge engines on the surface of the earth to find a new home. But the journey further into space is dangerous, and humanity's last chance for survival will depend on a group of young people brave enough to step forward and carry out a life-threatening mission to save Earth.

The film "The Wandering Earth 2" will arrive in Chinese and American cinemas already on January 22.

Recall, "The Wandering Earth" is a Chinese science fiction blockbuster. This is currently the third most-watched movie of the last year, right after Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel. So far, he has earned almost 700 million dollars, most of which in China. All the elements are there: epic plot, questionable science, dramatic music, expensive special effects and pathetic speeches about Home, Sacrifice and Hope. But while Hollywood films celebrate the individuality of their macho heroes who solve cataclysms, the main hero here is the Collective.
